Abstract
Elliptic surfaces are a wide and varied class of surfaces, with many tools and theorems from the theory of elliptic curves that can be used to study them. In this talk I will introduce some of the main theory and ideas about elliptic surfaces, and show how they can be applied, together with some Galois cohomology, to obtain elements of the Brauer group, which can then be used to give examples of Brauer-Manin obstruction, a method to show the nonexistence of rational points.
