Abstract
Speaker bio
Giancarlo is a senior structural engineer at Arup and PhD student at the Cambridge University Engineering Department He has worked on a wide range of projects including CERN Science Gateway in Geneva, Brentford Community Stadium, and the Warner Stand at Lord’s He is interested in geometry, shells and lightweight structures.
Abstract
Giancarlo will present a study into the use of graphic statics for the analysis and design of cantilevering gridshells that he is undertaking as part of his PhD research The talk will make reference to the wider themes of form finding, the use of Airy stress functions, graphic statics and making use of structural form in design Giancarlo will also show some of the built projects he has worked on with Arup.
