Abstract
Rigid (or even modular) tensor categories enjoy many nice properties and have hence been a topic of intense study. However, given some specific source of tensor categories such as the representation theory of vertex algebras (or conformal field theory) it can be extremely difficult to prove rigidity. In fact such tensor categories need not be rigid. They may, nevertheless, enjoy a weaker notion of duality called Grothendieck-Verdier duality, which will be the focus of this talk. I will be presenting a number of natural examples and recent results.
