Kirk Public Lecture: Topological Quantum Field Theory: From Physics to Mathematics and back
- 👤 Speaker: Ilka Brunner (Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München)
- 📅 Date & Time: Wednesday 01 October 2025, 16:00 - 17:00
- 📍 Venue: Seminar Room 1, Newton Institute
Abstract
Quantum Field Theory is well established as a principal perspective on physics. Its predictive power in the context of elementary particle physics is beyond any doubt and verified experimentally to high precision. On the other hand, its rigorous mathematical formulation remains a challenge. I will discuss a simple class of quantum field theories that allow for a discussion with mathematical rigour. Turning things around, abstract mathematical principles have proven to be useful for application in the context of physics.
