Abstract
followed by a wine reception
HIV : What is fact, and what is myth? The Human Immunodeficiency Virus is arguably the most talked-about virus of our time. In spite of the vast volume of research around it, many aspects of the infamously treatment-resistant cause of the lethal AIDS disease, remain a mystery.
Prof Andrew Lever will outline the to-date situation of the global HIV /AIDS epidemic, and the effects on individuals and populations. He will then discuss our knowledge of the virus itself, and how we are trying to combat it. This will include his research on understanding the fine structure of the inside of the virus and how knowledge of this may provide exciting new therapeutic opportunities.
