Abstract
In large N theories with a gravity dual, huge operators should correspond to black holes in the bulk, and the microscopic details of such operators should then become irrelevant in the low-energy theory. To understand this mechanism in a simpler framework, I will discuss the two-matrix Hoppe model in the strong coupling limit in the presence of huge operators. Using analytics and Montecarlo simulations, I will show how eigenvalue densities are described by a universal parabola distribution, and how correlation functions of probes in these backgrounds are determined by few parameters. Interestingly, not all huge operators behave universally: these models exhibit a sharp transition between universal and non-universal regimes at strong coupling.
