In this paper, my aim is to reflect on listening during my research in the Arctic over many years. Some of the experiences I want to highlight are my own, while some are of others listening. I would like to be able to explore whether a coherent account of listening (what is it to listen as opposed simply to hear). Taking this into the context of Arctic research, I want to say more about host-visitor relationships. And lastly, I want to explore how listening in Arctic research today resonates with changing contemporary political currents. The aim of my talk is to draw on the group’s considerable experience to get help with formulating my argument and to think together about what listening in the Arctic today looks like, and why it continues to matter.
