Building molecules that mimic biological function
- 👤 Speaker: Professor Jonathan Clayden
- 📅 Date & Time: Tuesday 27 January 2026, 18:00 - 19:00
- 📍 Venue: Pfizer Lecture Theatre, Department of Chemistry, Lensfield Road
Abstract
The lecture will explore how concepts of molecular shape, symmetry and dynamics can be used to invent designed solutions to challenges that much more complex biomolecular systems have solved through evolution – a sort of ‘molecular biomimicry’. Topics to be discussed will include the communication of information through changes in molecular shape, and directional movement fuelled by redox reactions.
