CSAR lecture: Millimetre-wave antenna designs for future wireless communications and radar sensor applications
- 👤 Speaker: Dr James Henderson, Plextek Services Limited

Abstract
Considering the trade-offs between different antenna approaches for cost-effective and high-performance millimetre-wave systems
James will be presenting some of his work on millimetre-wave systems, a frequency range which has gathered a lot of interest over the past decade, primarily due to the availability of significantly more bandwidth compared to the traditional highly congested microwave bands. The lecture will focus on antenna design approaches, which often dictates the system architecture, whilst considering the trade-offs in complexity, performance, size and cost of the overall system. Different design approaches for low-cost and high-performance systems will be discussed, whilst considering new technology and manufacturing advances.
The lecture will cover real-world examples developed by Plextek where contrasting requirements throughout the system have led to novel antenna array solutions, whilst also considering future millimetre-wave system developments to address future requirements in wireless communications and sensing solutions.
