Vascular ageing reflects cumulative pulsatile haemodynamic load acting on the arterial system across the life course. Progressive arterial stiffening and altered wave dynamics precede overt disease and are independently associated with cardiovascular, renal, cognitive, and pregnancy-related outcomes beyond brachial blood pressure. The central question is whether incorporating vascular ageing metrics meaningfully improves population risk stratification and preventive decision-making.

This talk will examine vascular ageing as an upstream and measurable risk substrate, integrating evidence from arterial mechanics, longitudinal cohorts, and emerging economic analyses. Particular attention will be given to accelerated vascular ageing and the translational challenge of harmonising measurement into outcome-anchored, clinically actionable prevention frameworks.
