Abstract
The automorphism group of the free group on n letters is a much studied object, but there are many questions that are as yet unanswered. The subgroup of pure symmetric automorphisms consists of the maps which send each generator of the free group to a conjugate of itself. This subgroup looks a lot like a right-angled Artin group (RAAG), so I will introduce those. A comparison of the relevant groups will follow and I will sketch a theory that encompasses both.
