Abstract
Flow cytometry is a powerful technique in biological and medical research as well as other scientific disciplines such as marine biology and plant sciences. It allows simultaneous analysis of individual cells using multiple parameters giving quantitative information about cell populations. This information can be used to separate cell populations using a high-speed cell sorter. There are many applications of flow cytometry that can be carried out including multi-colour phenotyping of sub populations, cell cycle analysis, apoptosis and the expression of fluorescent proteins. The applications of flow cytometry are evolving with the advancement of technologies behind fluorochromes and lasers.
