Where can the forces go? Simple ways with complex problems
- đ¤ Speaker: Prof Bill Harvey (OBVIS)
- đ Date & Time: Friday 29 October 2010, 15:00 - 16:00
- đ Venue: Engineering Department - **LR10**
Abstract
Masonry arches and tunnels present complex engineering problems, particularly of soil structure interaction. The talk will begin with a defence of plasticity in Masonry structures (surely not necessary in Cambridge!) and go on to look at some structures that have presented difficult problems and often serious arguments over the validity and indeed the need for complex analysis.
Series This talk is part of the Engineering Department Structures Research Seminars series.
