Abstract
In ekpyrotic or cyclic universe scenarios, a contracting phase of cosmic evolution with a fluid whose pressure exceeds its energy density plays an important role to account for the observed isotropy of our universe. In this talk, I will present a simple model in which such an ultra-stiff fluid is allowed to have anisotropic pressures and show that it tends to deviate the universe from isotropy as it contracts. Dynamical systems method is employed to analytically investigate the full non-linear behaviour of the system.
