Abstract

A year has passed since the Haitian earthquake that killed 220,000 people and left millions more homeless. In that time, Haitians have had to deal with the ongoing threat of a nationwide cholera epidemic whilst many still live without basic sanitation.

Friends of MSF are hosting a talk with Dr Javid Abdelmoneim, a UK doctor with a background in emergency medicine who has recently returned from an MSF mission to Haiti. Dr Abdelmoneim spent his time in the Cite Solei slum of Port-au-Prince, which houses about a quarter of a million people and has neither running water nor a sewage system.

This talk promises to give a unique account of what life is really like for people of Haiti and the many difficulties encountered in disaster relief.
