Abstract
Colin Tregenza Dancer, who graduated from St Catharine’s College, Cambridge with a degree in Theoretical Physics before joining the world leading hi-tech firm Metaswitch Networks (formerly known as Data Connection), will give a brief talk about why his time at the Cavendish still comes to his aid on a day-to-day basis. From real world applications of seemingly obscure quantum mechanical effects to the impact of the irritatingly slow speed of light, he will attempt to demonstrate why the tools and ways of thinking you develop as a physicist make you ideally suited to a career at the cutting edge of computer technology.
