Abstract
The next meeting of the CIG reading group will begin discussion on Amartya Senβs book entitled, Development as Freedom (1999). This is a key text written by Sen in which he discusses his capability perspective in relation to issues of poverty, development and freedom. The first session will examine the first four chapters of the book with a further two reading group sessions planned to explore the remaining 8 chapters. The book will be of relevance to all those interested in human development, social justice, education and poverty reduction. There are many online accounts and reviews of this seminal text which give an insight into the ongoing influence of Senβs capability perspective on debates around human development and its measurement.
All are welcome to attend this meeting.
