Abstract
Tony Roulstone will give a talking on the nuclear accident at Fukushima. He will explain what happened based on the limited information available and how the accident progressed. He will give a view of the key lessons for nuclear reactors in the light of the extreme nature of the earthquake and tsunami. These lessons focus on old reactors and how they measure up against the safety expectations of today. He poses the question whether such old reactors as those at Fukushima and elsewhere in other countries can match up to the safety standards of the 21^st century.
Tony Roulstone will be the inaugural Course Director for the MPhil in Nuclear Energy and is a former MD of Rolls-Royce Nuclear Group of companies.
