Abstract
Abstract: The speaker describes his stay in Le Corbusier’s apartment in Paris in 2003 in a book entitled “24 NC”. The experience felt went back to Cambridge in 1959 when Le Corbusier came to receive his honorary doctorate degree and was ambushed by students who shouted “À bas l’Académie!!”, the master’s own tirade against university establishment. Stephen Mullin and John Sergeant who were on the scene in 1959 will help to explain the Modern movement at CUSA which was sealed by Le Corbusier’s and Henry Moore’s joint lecture at the School on that occasion.
Biography: Sumet Jumsai is Chevalier de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres, member of the French Académie d’Architecture, Honorary Fellow of the American Institute of Architects, a former Bye-Fellow of Robinson College and a former Fellow Commoner of St.John’s College, Cambridge, where he took his degrees including a doctorate. His architectural works have appeared in international publications and exhibitions including the Venice Biennale 1996, and his paintings have been exhibited in galleries in Bangkok and Paris.
