Abstract

Cambridge Enterprise is offering a free course on the advantages and potential issues associated with serving as an expert witness in a court case. This is an ideal opportunity to understand the pitfalls and get advice on any specific concerns from local experts.

A Supreme Court decision earlier this year abolished the immunity from liability in negligence which expert witnesses had previously enjoyed. This course is designed to help you understand the potential problems associated with expert witness work, how to avoid them and other issues you should be aware of.

The course will be led by Caroline Chivers and Robert Renfree, who are both experienced solicitors in Mills & Reeve’s Cambridge commercial litigation team. Caroline and Robert will explain the potential legal liabilities of acting as an expert witness, and will outline how expert witnesses can minimise their exposure to claims. This course is the first in a series of free development seminars being organised by the Consultancy Services team at Cambridge Enterprise.

The course will be followed by a complimentary lunch, with opportunities for further discussion.
