Abstract
« Anti-dumping investigation », « anti-dumping tariff », « anti-dumping duties »: Newspapers often allude to a bunch of events linked to anti-dumping in international trade. And indeed, countries increasingly make use of this resort to offset the selling of products ‘below their normal value’ by foreign companies. Anti-dumping has thus become an issue of systemic importance for international trade. At the same time, anti-dumping is intrinsically puzzling. While anti-dumping has long been criticised by economists for its lack of economic rationality, it is noteworthy that most governments keep on supporting it strongly. The discussion will offer some leads to understand this tension and unveil the rationality behind anti-dumping.
