Abstract
Several lines of evidence from neuroimaging and neuropsychology implicate rostral prefrontal cortex in prospective memory (i.e. memory for delayed intentions). However, its role is poorly understood in information processing terms. In this talk I will describe some work combining standard univariate fMRI analysis with multivariate techniques to decode the content of delayed intentions. This allows us to distinguish brain regions that represent the content of delayed intentions from regions playing a โcontent-freeโ role. I will also describe a computational model of a prospective memory task that seeks to link these neuroimaging findings with patterns of behavioural data.
Brief bio:
I received my PhD from UCL โs Institute of Cognitive Neuroscience in 2002, and have been there ever since (apart from some brief stints at NYU ). My research attempts to relate theories of cognitive control and social cognition to underlying brain mechanisms and information processing accounts, using neuroimaging, computational modelling, and behavioural approaches.
