Abstract
Carefully introducing the elementary background concepts, we show how the Stochastic LOCC entanglement classification of three qubits is neatly captured by an elegant mathematical construction known as the Freudenthal triple system (FTS). In particular, the four physically distinct entanglement classes are given by the four FTS ranks. These results are extended to four qubits via a rather curious mathematical connection to black hole solutions in string theory. In this case there are 31 entanglement “families”. Finally, time permitting we will briefly introduce a “supersymmetric” extension of the qubit and its symmetries, the superqubit, and explore the possible implications for Tsirelson’s bound in this departure from conventional quantum mechanics.
