Abstract

Bob Hayes and Jonathan Hines will chart Architype’s exciting journey along the cutting edge of sustainable architecture, from their roots in the radical Walter Segal self-build movement of the 1980s, to their current position as pioneers of the UK’s Passivhaus movement. This is a story of restless and relentless innovation, inspired by Bob and Jonathan’s passionate belief in the potential of good design to shape a more humane and sustainable future. Architype seeks to design buildings in which the architecture itself does all the hard work in saving energy and creating a healthy environment, instead of relying on techno fixes and green ‘add-ons’. This seminar will also illustrate how Architype’s collaborative approach and distinctive design philosophy have created buildings whose quality has not only been recognised by the judges of many top design awards, but more importantly, work for, and are much loved by, their users.
