Venki Ramakrishnan is Group Leader of the Structural Studies Division at the MRC LMB in Cambridge. After a degreeand PhD in physics, he moved to biology, working on ribosome structure and function for which he was awarded the Nobel Prize for Chemistry in 2009. He was knighted in 2012. Venki’s research has revealed much about the essential process of protein synthesis and paved the way for the potential development of new antibiotics to fight disease.
