Abstract
So here you are, working on your neat little application, writing some Matlab code for an assignment or perhaps just writing a large document. Maybe you are doing it on your own or perhaps you are part of a group sending documents or source code via email. You are used to being able to change anything at any time, so why should you even bother using version control or its modern cousin, distributed version control (DVC)? Even if you do how do you get started and where do you get help?
Dr. Wareham has over a decade of experience in writing academic and commercial software in teams and as an independent researcher, and he will attempt to convince you that there are many practical reasons to use distributed version control and in particular Git.
Whether you want to track changes to your CV or contribute to the Linux Kernel, you better Git it!
