Abstract
Food is an essential element of many favorite children’s books.Using meals and snacks describes in a variety of classic girls’ books, Dawn Sardella-Ayres has put together recipes and party ideas for a potential entertainment guide, as well as unearthing revealing details about food and meal culture in a variety of children’s fictional contexts. In the “college novel,” a mainstay from the early 20th century, meals and restaurants provide explorations of women’s developing identities and gender roles, as well as some tasty foodstuffs!
