Abstract
I will present a brief, non-technical overview of how the geometry of a physical system can be used to predict its evolution in time. In particular, I will focus on Einstein’s Field Equations which describe the physical phenomenon of gravitation. After a (very) short description and history of the general theory of relativity, I’ll go on to discuss the pivotal contributions of three mathematicians to this theory, namely Emmy Noether, Yvonne Fouret-Bruhat and Cathleen Morawetz.
