Abstract
Achieving the coherent control of quantum systems is clearly the central challenge on the way to operational quantum technologies. In this talk, we will review recent results in the field of control of quantum continuous variables, such as electromagnetic field modes, nano-mechanical oscillators and trapped ions. In particular, we will report on results concerning the open-loop controllability of systems of coupled oscillators, and flag up the relationship between recurrence and controllability in such systems. Further, we will address the optimisation of steady-state quantum entanglement by measurement-based feedback control in systems of coupled harmonic oscillators, under rather general, unitary and dissipative, dynamical conditions. Finally, we will suggest some approaches for the experimental implementation of the schemes discussed.
