Abstract

An informal discussion hosted by Prof David MacKay and Dr Rosamunde Almond. Dr Almond is executive secretary of the Forum for Sustainability and the Environment and will introduce the aims of this new Cambridge based network.

Abstract: Earlier this year, 20 of the University’s leading experts in areas ranging from energy, biodiversity and public health to anthropology, architecture and economics came together to form the Cambridge Forum for Sustainability and the Environment.

Across the University, there is a huge amount of research that has a direct relevance to understanding the sort of adaptive measures that might be taken to build resilience in a changing world and the Forum provides a space to make connections across these areas. This multi-disciplinary group meets once a month and the general theme of the discussions over the next year is ‘sustainability in an uncertain future’. This theme will be used to frame a series of discussions and outputs centred on some of the most pressing sustainability challenges we face in the future and the research pathways which would help to prepare for and address those challenges.
