Probing the Dark Sector of the Vacuum Using Cavities, Atoms and Lasers

Recently, the Cockcroft Institute has initiated two laboratory scale prototype experiments exploiting the expertise, knowledge base and techniques of particle accelerators (e.g. high precision electromagnetic cavities) and laser-atom techniques (e.g. atom beam interferometry), to detect and explore possible ‘Dark Sector Photons’ and investigate laboratory manifestation of the ‘Dark Energy’. This is complementary to astrophysical or cosmological observations. I will briefly describe these two efforts and seek expert engagement on the heoretical, phenomenological and experimental particle physics/cosmology aspects that could give these experiments meaning and relevance.
