Dr Rees will explain how, contrary to the traditional belief that optical microscopy would be forever limited by diffraction to a resolution of the order of the wavelength of light, new methods have allowed scientists to beat this limit by a factor of ten or more, paving the way for investigations in biology and materials science at even smaller scales.
