Abstract
In 2013 Prof. Heyns addressed the subject of Autonomous Weapons Systems (also known as Lethal Autonomous Robots) in a report to the UN Human Rights Council. In it he called for all nations to observe a moratorium on the use of such weapons. The field of robotics continues, however, to develop very quickly, and one year on Prof. Heyns will offer his current thoughts on this cutting edge of International Human Rights and International Humanitarian Law.
The Centre for Governance and Human Rights (CGHR) is pleased to collaborate with the UN Special Rapporteur on extrajudicial, summary or arbitrary executions, producing research on issues related to the right to life. Further details of this collaboration can be found here.
