Rapid changes are occurring in the marine environment and, as wide-ranging top predators acting as bio-indicators of marine systems, seabirds require protection from the deleterious synergistic effects of global climate change and human activities. My PhD is concerned with the foraging ecology and behaviour of brown skuas with an emphasis on how individual adults forage during the breeding and nonbreeding periods in relation to the distribution and abundance of prey, and how this and other factors contribute to variation in the breeding success and survival. To address this topic, I use a range of techniques including stable isotope analysis and bio‐logging technology.
