Abstract
Centering on the re-discovery of a group of manuscripts relating to Darwin’s microscopy, this paper emphasizes the role of the microscope in Darwin’s invertebrate studies. In addition to a description of some of the fine points of his instrumental practice, the biographical importance of instrumentation is examined and emphasized.
