Abstract
On this special Wednesday we will investigate algorithms for keeping a unique database in distributed, fault-tolerant systems. We will first see how the industry-quality Raft algorithm delivers stability and high performance and highlight its most important design choices. Then we will set off on a journey to the world of virtual currency where the same issue has to be handled completely differently. We are talking Bitcoin. We are talking underground races against shady criminals for dirty £££. Can you keep up?
