Abstract
CP violation was first discovered in kaon decay fifty years ago. If the parameters of direct and indirect CP violation are very well-measured experimentally, a complete and quantitative theoretical computation is still missing. However, thanks to numerical simulations of lattice QCD , an important contribution has been computed two years ago: the amplitude of a kaon to decay into two pions with Isospin two. I will present this work with emphasis on the challenges and on the theoretical ideas which made this computation possible. Then I will present the progress we have made on the other part of the computation, where the two-pion state has isospin zero. From these computations, a tentative explanation of the “Delta I = 1/2 rule” will be given. Finally in the last part of the seminar I will present our work on neutral kaon mixing (within and beyond the standard model) and give an overview of the situation.
