The history of present day Greenlandic populations and how they adapted to living in such extreme environmental conditions remain unanswered questions. Dr. Fumagalli will address these issues by presenting the analysis of extensive SNP data and exome sequencing data from individuals across several geographical locations in Greenland. This study support evidence of a strong recent gene flow from Europe. Moreover, the genetic variation patterns are consistent with a single colonization wave of the island going north to south to east. Additionally, the study allowed the identification of regions under positive selection. These results shed light on migratory events and adaptive processes of Greenlandic populations.
