Seismic retrofitting of historic masonry structures
- đ¤ Speaker: Prof Gianmarco De Felice - Department of Engineering of the University Roma Tre
- đ Date & Time: Thursday 12 March 2015, 15:00 - 16:00
- đ Venue: Cambridge University Engineering Department, LR5
Abstract
The seminar provides an overview of the main damages suffered by historic masonry during the recent earthquakes in Italy. The related research on traditional and innovative techniques for the seismic protection of masonry structures is presented. By means of an experimental campaign comprising shaking table tests on a full-scale masonry specimen, the out-of-plane behaviour of masonry walls is investigated and the effectiveness of retrofitting with externally bonded composite materials is assessed. The structural implications in terms of dynamic properties and damage development under earthquake loads are also discussed.
