Abstract
We will discuss how classical inequalities in analysis, such as the Cauchy-Schwarz, H\”older, Loomis-Whitney and sharp Young’s convolution inequalities, may be obtained via monotonicity formulae for solutions to heat equations. This general approach was first used in this type of setting by Carlen, Lieb and Loss, and subsequently in joint work with A. Carbery, M. Christ and T. Tao.
