Abstract

Both in academia and outside, public speaking skills are highly valued. Specifically, academic success requires that you express your ideas clearly both in writing and in speaking. In this seminar, we will focus on public speaking, and reflect around some of the important principles that are required for good public speaking. Pu Shi, who is a doctoral student at the Faculty of Education, will share her personal experience in public speaking by examining attitudes and techniques that have helped her to improve the quality of her academic presentations. Beatrice Balfour, who is doctoral student at the Faculty of Education and the current welfare officer for FERSA , will be running a section of the seminar as a workshop on how to best prepare for speeches. This seminar will be a space open to anyone who wants to share their own experience and to discuss their concerns about public speaking. The aim of the seminar is to offer the opportunity to students to reflect around how to best present their thoughts and ideas in academic contexts.
