From solitons to magnons via transverse field in an Ising magnet

Abstract
We apply strong transverse magnetic fields to drive a quasi-one-dimensional Ising magnet to its critical point separating magnetic order and paramagnetic phases and use neutron scattering to observe how the magnetic quasiparticles change character upon crossing the critical field.
