Abstract

Day 1- Introduction A: We and the students each say who we are and what we do.
- Introduction B: We explain how the 4 days will run and what we are aiming for.
- Lecture 1: Big problems in Industrial Maths.
- Lecture 2: Current trends in Industrial Maths.
- Presentation of a problem to be worked on in groups of 3-4 students.
- Initial discussion of the problem all together.
Day 2
Mainly working on the problem in groups, with supervision.
Day 3
Continuing to work on the problem but also to include- Seminar 1: Commercial exploitation of research.
- Seminar 2: Career advice.
Day 4
Presentations of results of the teamwork, to include- Written report from each group.
- Presentation from each group.
- Demonstration and testing of software written by each group.
- Reflections on mathematical teamwork – what went well/badly, how effective was it, what helped, what did not.
