Abstract
This presentation focuses on infants and toddlers home soundscapes and is based on a detailed analysis of all the language and music sounds young children heard at home for an entire day. I will focus on the research itself and the general topic of the culture of childhood and the role that music plays in it.
Bio
Eugenia Costa-Giomi is a professor of Music Education at The Ohio State University. She has taught music in public schools in Argentina, Mexico, the United States, and Canada and at McGill University and the University of Texas – Austin. Her research focuses on musical development, music perception, and music learning. She has been a member of the editorial boards of research journals (JRME, Psychology of Music, Empirical Musicology Review, Musicae Scientia, College Music Society), the Chair of the Society for Research in Music Education, the Music Perception SRIG of NAfME, the 4th International Conference in Music Perception and Cognition, and the 12th International Symposium in Music Research and Behaviour.
