Atomistic simulations for materials engineering

Abstract
I will describe two examples of atomic scale modelling that have connections to materials engineering: (i) investigating the minimum load and corresponding crack speed at which brittle fracture can take place, and (ii) calculating pressure-temperature phase diagrams over wide ranges of P and T from first principles without any experimental input.
