the unstable and conflictual relations between Nay Pyi Taw and its citizens on the ‘new frontiers’ have imposed limits and risks not just on the lives of these distinct groups on the boundaries but also on the lives of ordinary Burmese people themselves. With just one month left before the election in Myanmar, we will discuss and invite dialogue on the historic origins of protracted conflicts on the frontiers (at least the recent ones), thus allowing us to address some of the very current conflicts of the 21st century, on the Shan, Kachin, Rakhine, Karen, and Chin frontiers. Again there is the possibility of a multi-cultural federated state.
