-273.15˚C : it’s how it feels outside, and it also happens to be a fundamental thermodynamic limit. Or so we though, until Dr Ulrich Schneider and his team made headlines and history when they forced potassium atoms go below absolute zero. He has since joined the Cavendish Laboratory, where he continues to heat up a seemingly magical field of physics that can coax otherwise unremarkable collections of atoms into being frictionless, magnetic, and collectively quantum. Join us at our new venue (LT1, Department of Engineering) on Tuesday evening for an unmissably exciting talk that will change the way that you perceive the laws of nature.
