Abstract
This seminar examines Yellow Peril discourses developed during the Third Plague Pandemic (1894-1959) and in the course of the SARS epidemic of 2003. Examining the ways in which the two have been recently linked, by both victims and analysts of Sinophobia, the seminar argues for a radical discontinuity between the two phenomena, each of which corresponds to distinct biopolitical visions of China.
