Abstract
Following the recent announcement of the first detection of gravitational waves I will review the main results of the discovery with a focus on the analysis that leads to the estimates of the binary black hole parameters (including the black hole masses and spins). I will also discuss some of the implications of this discovery for astrophysics more generally.
