Abstract
I will rehearse the debate concerning the pros and cons of NHS Health Checks (http://www.nhs.uk/Conditions/nhs-health-check/Pages/NHS-Health-Check.aspx), an expensive and controversial national screening/cardiovascular risk reduction programme in which adults aged 40-74 years, without pre-existing conditions such as blood pressure or diabetes, are invited to attend for a βfree midlife MOT β to assess risk of diabetes and cardiovascular disease and receive appropriate advice and treatment.
